In 2006 I was twenty-one in Mexico. Seeing women sewing in the streets inspired me to try embroidery. I found a second-hand communion dress in a thrift store and bought one spool of green thread. The first thing I stitched was a cactus onto the back of the bodice. It took a while before I felt confident to use any colour besides the green thread. The dress is still not completed. And it won't be. What covers it is the product of one year's work, documenting the people and environment surrounding me at that time of my life.
